19 year old Alexander J. Velicky recently released, Falskaar, one of the most critically acclaimed Skyrim mods to date. The game was largely produced by Velicky himself with the aid of 100 contributors including 29 voice actors. Taking around 2000 hours to develop, Velicky hoped to land himself a job at Bethedsa, who we believe are very much aware of his efforts.
However, on a recent statement from Velicky’s facebook fan page he was clearly saddened by some comments made by fans to Bethedsa on various forums. Many of these comments revolved around boycotting future Bethedsa titles should Alexander J. Velicky not find himself in Bethedsa’s employment. Here is what Alexander had to say
I very much appreciate all the support that I’ve received. From all the comments and messages I’ve gotten, the articles and coverage, to the endorsements and support on the Nexus. It means a lot, but I’d like to see an end to comments like, “If Bethesda doesn’t hire this guy, I’m never buying one of their games again.” or “If they don’t hire you, I’ve lost all respect for them!”It’s important to understand that the decision lies with Bethesda. If they like my work and want me to be a part of their team, things will happen. If they don’t, then they won’t. But I don’t want any kind of backlash against them if things don’t work out. Yes, I very much want to work there, and yes I’ll do anything on my end to make it happen. But regardless of what the community thinks, it’s their choice. So please show them some respect, and understand that whether I get hired or not, they’re still the same great company. In the event that I am not hired, I hope to see minimal/no backlash against them. I really appreciate the support, and I hope things work out too, but some of the attitude is rather extreme, and in some cases just un-called for.
At Twinstick we wished Alexander all the best for the future and still hope he manages to fulfil his dream. Yet whilst I feel Bethedsa would be missing a golden opportunity to let this young man flourish, Alexander is right. The decision lies with them. Here at Twinstick we’ll just have our fingers crossed.
