This weeks all platform games chart showed up some interesting things this week (all info courtesy of GFK Chart Track). First and foremost, 4J Studios’ MineCraft: XBOX 360 Edition has held onto the no.1 spot for the second week running. The Microsoft published, open world indie game has been going from strength to strength for weeks, quietly making its way up the charts.
Last week’s no. 2, Nintendo’s own Pikmin 3, however – has not only failed to hold onto the number 2 position, but has actually failed to break the top 10 (slipping down to number 15, just behind GTA IV).
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has climbed into the number 2 spot, closely followed by another consistent performer: The 3DS game (also developed by Nintendo) Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Whether or not this means a resurgence for The Last of Us remains to be seen, more likely that Pikmin 3 saw a spike during its release week and will now trail off into relative obscurity as Nintendo’s flagship console, the Wii U, struggles to make much of an impact in the UK.
So how long can MineCraft hold onto the no. 1 spot? Will it be able to rival 6 consecutive weeks that The Last of Us racked up? A glance ahead to the triple A titles due for release this August would suggest not, but that all remains to be seen!
