It had been rumoured, but now it is confirmed. Every single pre-ordered Xbox One in Europe will come with a copy of EA Sorts’ FIFA 14 – absolutely free. This fantastic news for Microsoft fans here in the UK and across all European territories that receive the console in November. FIFA has been a ‘must have’ title across all platforms for years!
There are 2, what I’m going to call ‘minority drawbacks’. Minority in that, though they will affect some people, most of us won’t be hampered by such issues. The first issue is that this is a digital version of FIFA 14, not a disc copy. So, though your Xbox One no longer has to be ‘always online’ it WILL have to be online for you to download the game! Secondly, as far as we know, there is no option for those that just plain don’t like football. You can have FIFA 14 for free, but no alternatives have been announced. It’s early days though so all that could change?
For the rest of us though, this is a superb deal and makes that £429.99 price tag seem a little more friendly, now we know we can subtract the £50 essential footballing franchise from the cost!
This is the first big and bold move from Microsoft (and EA Sports with whom the deal was struck) that absolutely no-one will be asking them to reverse or suggest they ‘borrowed’ the idea from a rival company!
We welcome this with open arms – whilst eagerly waiting to see how Sony responds!
