**UPDATE 10/11/2013 – You can see our most up to date article on the new WoW character models right here!**
So I think most WoW players are waiting in anticipation on the arrival of the new character models which have been churning around the rumour mill since before Cataclysm’s release, whether you want them or not there has been very little leaked on the subject and most of us are wondering if it is going to happen at all.
But it seems we are indeed in for a change: hair, beards, ponytails, hands, fingers, facial expressions and animations etc are all being updated.
With Orc Warchief, Garrosh Hellscream and Troll High Priestess Mar’li in the Throne of Thunder getting these new advanced model updates, this may be a view as to what the developers have been working on for the rest of us.
In recent interviews developers have let it known that the new character models are roughly 25% done and that it will be very unlikely everyone will be updated at once, so we still have a fair way to go it seems until everyone is updated.
I see maybe two races per faction being updated at first – Orcs and Trolls for the Horde to coincide with recent images and boss models.
Maybe Human and Dwarves for the Alliance, after hearing whispers that these were being worked on first.
But really it’s anybody’s guess at the moment.
Although I am on bated breath to see what’s coming, I can’t see the wait as anything but a good thing.
With regular weekly art meetings it appears the developers are trying hard to keep everybody happy (if that’s ever possible), updating the models but making sure it keeps the feel of the character you have always known and loved, especially since it’s looking more and more likely you won’t be given the choice to revert back to the old model.
How do you feel? Are you ready and waiting to let go of the avatar you have always played or are you hoping the new model changes never come? And which models do you think/want to be released first?
