Earlier this week Ubisoft gave us a brilliant new gameplay video for their upcoming open-world espionage adventure Watch_Dogs. As if that wasn’t enough for fans to get their teeth into, we have a new gameplay video from Assassin’s Creed IV: Blackflag.
The pirate themed stealth-’em-up’s latest preview shows us some of the features we have seen in previous videos, however this time we see how the small islands and underwater booty hunting will come into play. It’s a beautiful world, trees and foliage sway elegantly in the wind, shrouding the footfalls of our swashbuckling assassin.
Much like Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3, Assassin’s Creed IV: Blackflag will have a large map busting with icons and unexplored terrain. Players will be required to show their muscle, in the form of a bar fight, if they want access to some of these areas. The video shows us just how much the combat has been tweaked and improved. Brutal fist fights can be as big a part of your combat experiences as stealth kills, sword fights and naval warfare, should you so choose! Speaking of the stealth kills, it appears Creed is taking a few cues from Splinter Cell introducing a ‘whistle’ option to get the attention of enemies from your hiding place.
Scaling lookout towers now has the added bonus of providing you with ‘fast travel’ locations for you to get around this vast and sprawling world quickly, though it’s so stunningly beautiful, you may just want to take it slow and soak it up? Lookout towers will still reveal new areas of the map along with some stunning vistas but they are not the only means of acquiring new missions and areas. Ship wrecks and hunting zones litter the map meaning you’re never far from something to do.
With this Assassin’s Creed having a focus on pirates and open water battles, Ubisoft has spent considerable time below the water creating an interesting and dangerous world. Diving to the sea bed, players will have to avoid all manner of sea creatures. Sharks and stingrays look to be the most deadly. However, you can get your own back on the sharks by taking on a harpooning mission! As a valuable source of income at the time the game is set, hunting whales and great white sharks with harpoons has been brought into the world of Assassin’s Creed IV – and it promises to be a deep system including harpoon upgrades that are necessary to successfully hunt the larger mammals of the sea!
Assassin’s Creed IV is to be released on 1st Novemeber for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U – and should also be available at launch for both PS4 and Xbox One.
