Now with just a short six days to go until Grand Theft Auto 5’s long awaited launch, anticipation has now reached fever pitch.
After Rockstar’s statement that GTA 5’s map would be larger than Grand Theft Auto 4, San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption all put together, the world has been waiting patiently to see whether that is true.
Well, wait no longer as intrepid Reddit users have leaked an image of the map, reportedly pulled from the game’s official strategy guide.
Obviously, spoilers follow.
Be sure to click on the image and select view full size for a massive, zoom-able version of the map.
The size of the city in comparison to the countryside in GTA 5 really hammers home the massive scale of the game world. Having seen the city sprawl countless times in the trailers leading up to the games launch, what is especially impressive is how such a large in game city is dwarfed by the expansive countryside around it.
Users of the Reddit thread have been busy comparing the size of map to those of Rockstar’s other games.
Mandarjin came up with this GIF to show quite how large the game world is whilst side by side comparisons appear to put the entirety of GTA 4’s map as being roughly equal to GTA 5’s main city alone.
A group of forum users have already dedicated their time to mapping Los Santos by piecing together footage from trailers and comparing in-game buildings to those in Los Angeles and Southern California, coming up with a startlingly similar map way back on August 29th.
Check out their version of the GTA 5 map on gtaforums here.
Roll on September 17th when I will be changing characters on the fly just to see that glorious satellite view of Los Santos crashing down to Earth.
