GTA V on PC – Petition update

GTA V coming to PC?
GTA V coming to PC?

Since its September 17th launch, Grand Theft Auto V has been one of the most played and most successful games of all time. 10 out of 10 accolades have rained down upon it from before that date and the 1 billion sales in 3 days speaks for itself.

However, whilst PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers have been rampaging through the streets of Los Santos or hunting in the wilderness of Blaine County (or rambling their way up Mount Chiliad, if you so choose?), the poor PC gamers have been left out in the cold. They may have been all smiles and arrogance when heavily modding GTA IV for the last couple of years, but they have had a case of the green eyed monster ever since the console launch.

Never ones to take this lying down, the PC community have spoken up. A petition entitled ‘Rockstar: Release GTA V on PC‘ has been posted by Canadian gamer, Mike Julliard. Encouraging people to join and sign the petition, his message reads:

Rockstar Games
Rockstar PR
Rockstar Games
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.

Please release GTA V on PC. GTA games have been a large part of so many people’s lives and it’s a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform. Things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.

I hope you consider the release of GTA V on PC as it’ll make many people very happy!

[Your name]”

On the one hand, you can’t deny his manners. A very politely worded message for all to send – insert jokes about Canadians here – I for one appreciate good manners. However, reading a little further into the message you may also see what I see. What Mike is asking you to write to Rockstar is:

Dear Rockstar, your game doesn’t look as good or run as well on consoles. You should release it on PC so we can change it to make it more fun.”

The petition already has around 600 000 people who have signed up, which is staggering… ish. It all depends on how you look at the numbers I suppose. Invite 600 000 people round for dinner – you’ve got a huge, intimidating mob on your hands. 600 000 disgruntled PC gamers moaning at the makers of a game that shifted a billion copies in 3 days with major markets still waiting for release… it amounts to a mild grumble from significantly less than 1% of your audience. All for a game that Rockstar have never said they WON’T release on PC, just that they haven’t yet.

How much better can it look? Really!
How much better can it look? Really!

Now, the good people at Rockstar are much kinder than I, so they are unlikely to read it in such a way. But if you DO wish to petition Rockstar for a PC version, you might want to pen your own letter, just to be safe.

Should you wish to chastise Rockstar on their inferior game, you can join the existing petition here.

Should you wish to take 5 minutes away from playing GTA V on your console to email our review to a friend that is waiting for the PC version and then laugh manically to yourself for a while, you can find it here.
