In a news story that will undoubtedly be filed under ‘I can’t believe this hadn’t happened already!?’ – Playstation Blog today announced that digital download sales of Grand Theft Auto V have finally overtaken the previous ‘best online seller’, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us.
Though no official sales figures have (yet) been released, the announcement was made alongside their regular articles looking at the months top sellers on Playstation Network.
Now, I’m not quite sure what to take from this? First of all, the fact that it’s taken this long was stunning to me. The best selling game of all time, shifting a billion copies in a mere 3 days, etc. It’s all anyone could talk about on September 20th (including us), yet there was The Last of Us ,fending off the mighty GTA V and holding onto its record for a whopping 3 weeks!
Secondly, this could show that GTA V has been slow to sell on PSN, however I think this is more indicative of just how wellThe Last of Us has sold in digital download form.
We’re always keen to argue about which is the best game ever at Twinstick. Recently, some of the team threw their thoughts and preferences into the ring for the 31st annual Golden Joystick Awards article. Though that was a split decision (2 of us backing The Last of Us, 2 backing GTA V), it would appear that in terms of public opinion, The Last of Us has finally yielded its last bastion!
GTA Online is now up and running (relatively) smoothly, check out our guides to help you make quick cash!
