Activision have posted a short video trailer of the Extinction mode from their latest title in their flagship franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts. This is the first time we’ve laid eyes on the brand-spanking new game mode and we can tell you that it’s a bit out of normal comfort zone! Extinction mode is a 1-4 player scavenge/survival co-operative mode, complete with base defence tactics and a class-based levelling system.
The trailer depicts a unit of 4 human soldiers defending themselves against an onslaught of different alien baddies. The landscape around these 4 unlucky troops reminds us of scenes reminiscent of Gears of War, complete with mounds of rancid alien flesh that like to blow out gas and goo. The mode appears to be the replacement for the usual zombies mode that often graces the franchise, although zombies is a mode used exclusively by Treyarch in the past; Call of Duty: Ghosts is being developed by Infinity Ward who usually use a ‘Spec Ops’ mode in addition to campaign and multiplayer elements.
