Werewolf or Vampire? Furry beast or blood sucker?
A difficult choice that has been made by veteran and novice Elder Scrolls fans for years. The question those eagerly anticipating The Elder Scrolls Online have been pondering for a while: will we have this option online?
Bethesda and Zenimax and been relatively quiet on the subject – although they did announce that it was a possibility. However, today, a first look at the Werewolf has finally been released.
Contracting ‘Sanies Lupinus’ seems to be possible while fighting Werewolves in the wilds of Tamriel. You will have access to a terrifyingly savage transformation, guaranteed to strike fear into the hearts of any local onlookers and the means to launch yourself into a murderous killing spree.
So, nothing completely new there then…
On the other hand, something that IS new is the opportunity to hunt in packs! Does this mean you and your wolfish friends will be able to mindlessly attack villages, hunt down prey, and destroy all those who take you on – whilst adding a whole new level and dynamic to PVP?
What we are not yet sure about are the limitations of becoming a Werewolf: will you be able to transform in cities? How long will you transform for? How many times a day can you transform? Can you be cured and re-infected? What are the repercussions of transforming in-front of NPCs or other players? And will there be a long winded quest-line to become a Werewolf or will it be easily available to everyone?
There are a lot of unanswered questions and Bethesda and Zenimax are continuing to keep some cards close to their chest so as to not reveal any “spoilers.” While I am optimistic in the way The Elder Scrolls Online is heading into the world of MMORPGS, only time will tell if Werewolves and Vampires hold a true purpose in the online game or if they will simply be a novelty.
