Gran Turismo 6, due on December the 6th exclusively for the PS3, hasn’t even left it’s packaging. Yet Gran Turismo 7 could be hitting our shelves for the PS4 as early as 2014 according to the series creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, who spoke to the motoring program Top Gear;
We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7……Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3’s architecture, but of course the PS4’s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”
The ease of game development on the PS4 has been well praised in the press. However, despite all this, Polyphony Digital isn’t renowned for its quick turn over of games. In fact, Gran Turismo 5 was more notorious for its delays rather than its outstanding gameplay, so racing enthusiasts may not want to read too much into this and take a back seat as we have heard such promises from the Gran Turismo camp before.
Top Gear also asked what Kazunori Yamauchi thought of their biggest rival Forza and if they were at all worried by the popularity of the franchise;
We always respect our competition,” he says. “The racing genre isn’t really that big in its entirety, so I’m glad that everyone works hard to boost the genre as a whole.”
Isn’t it nice that the worlds of Sony and Microsoft are finally getting along?
