Child of Light – Preview

Child-of-Light-P

Ubisoft’s upcoming Role Playing Game, Child of Light, is an exciting and original proposition. Combining original characters and retro-influenced RPG gameplay, it could be a truly special experience. Though it’s not without its challenges.

Child of Light is the kind of game that could easily pass you by. Firstly, it’s an entirely new IP – so its name isn’t going to resonate with you. Secondly, its a downloadable only game – so it won’t be in your online shopping recommendations. Thirdly, its coming from Ubisoft, a studio that has much bigger games to promote – so the marketing for a small, downloadable game isn’t likely to be huge.

On the other hand, there are a lot of reasons to be hugely excited about Ubisoft’s Child of Light. Whether it’s the fact that the team behind Child of Light are largely made up from the team that made Far Cry 3 (a high caliber team, albeit making a very different game), or the fact that Child of Light is inspired by Final Fantasy VI – arguably the best of the Final Fantasy series [there is no argument, VII is the best – Ed], or the use of the awesome looking Ubi-Art framework – there is plenty to get your attention – once you know to look for it!

However, perhaps the biggest reason to be excited is when you see the game in action. An unbelievably original and beautiful looking game, it has a unique charm that makes you want to just reach out and touch it. Its fluidity of movement, combined with atmospheric textures make it look like amazing concept art that has been brought to life. Mesmerising.
