With the news of a new Batman Arkham game finally out there, information and details about what we can expect from the latest instalment is coming in thick and fast!
Firstly, fans can calm themselves as none other than Batman himself (well… Kevin Conroy) will indeed be returning to voice The Dark Knight during this instalment of the Arkham franchise. Although this will come as no surprise, as Kevin Conroy infamously broadcast his work on a new Arkham game moments after Warner Bros announced the new voice of Batman (in Arkham Origins) would be Roger Craig Smith.
Another confirmed detail is that unlike Arkham Origins, Arkham Knight will not include a multiplayer mode and will only feature a single player campaign. During an interview to Game Informer, Rocksteady and Warner Brothers cited that the reasons behind this move were simple;
It’s going to take all of our effort for all of this time. We don’t have the time to do multiplayer”
They went on to explain that a multiplayer element was not needed. Their focus was a strong single player experience and that this had been their strategy right from the start of development.
Information on what to expect from the game have also come to light. Arkham Knight is set one year after the events of Arkham City and will take place in a Gotham City five times larger of that of its predecessor.
The title ‘Arkham Knight‘ apparently does not refer to Batman himself, but in fact refers to the (as yet) unnamed villain of this piece. Batman will face a new enemy unlike any other of which he has faced before. This new nemesis will join forces with Two-Face, The Penguin and many others that feature in Batman’s Rogues Gallery, in an attempt to topple The Dark Knight’s reign of justice in Gotham.
Gotham City will also be densely populated with riots taking place in multiple areas around the city and up to fives times more thugs than Arkham City at any one time.
The importance of the Batmobile have been given a more detailed explanation, particularly of how and when it is used. The Batmobile will be able to be summoned at any time and has the ability smash through almost any object that blocks its path and comes equipped with immobilising missiles. The Batmobile will be an intergral part of making your way around the city. It will also be incorporated in to how you complete some of the Riddler challenges and collect many of the Riddler trophies around Gotham. The ability to eject from the Batmobile at any given moment means Batman can quickly propel himself out of the Batmobile and grapple around the cityscape to a more exact location of your desire.
