After months of rumours and speculation, Rocksteady and Warner Brothers have announced the next and final instalment in the Batman: Arkham franchise. Batman: Arkham Knight is set to be released worldwide this year for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Currently there are no plans for a Xbox 360 and PS3 release.
The announcement came after a small mishap by a leading UK games retailer, when they listed the title on their website this morning. The game was spotted and quickly removed but the announcement was later made, accompanied by a teaser trailer.
The trailer depicts some of the primary antagonists set to feature in the game including Two-Face, The Penguin and Harley-Quinn. The trailer also shows a new feature. For the first time ever fans can rejoice as they have the ability to drive the Batmobile through the streets of Gotham.
The Batmobile will be used as a means of traversing around Gotham City as you move from crime to crime. With previous Batman Arkham games, the free roam areas have often increased in size. When Batman Arkham City was released, the city appeared huge in comparison to the small and linear map of Arkham Asylum, However, both were overshadowed by the enormity of Batman Arkham Origins. Origins in fact, was approximately double the size of its predecessor. The addition of the Batmobile and the power and scope the next gen consoles offer, begs the question – just how big will Gotham City be this time? We wait with bated breath.
With the game officially announced, and a rumoured October release date, we will undoubtedly keep you posted with the latest developments in what will be one of this years biggest and most anticipated releases.
