Ubisoft have released a stunning new trailer for upcoming Watch_Dogs that showcases the open world of Chicago in which the game is set.
The unbelievable graphical display takes you through stunning detail at every level. From the cracked, rain-soaked road, to the ambient mist shrouding the twilit city – everything looks amazing. It’s a truly impressive display: incidental animations of the diverse city folk and the dynamic lighting, that casts a warm glow from the sun during daylight hours, and striking contrast from bright lights against the silhouetted skyscrapers after nightfall.
However, it’s one simple line from the accompanying monologue that has me most intrigued.
Each citizen has a unique identity that reacts intelligently to the world around them.”
This is why I can’t wait to pay the price of entry. Not only does each of the game’s citizens look totally different as they crowd the streets, alleys and interiors the game presents, but that they each have their own personality that will react differently depending on what you do as you traverse the world as Aiden Pierce.
Ubisoft have spoken in the past about the ripple effect from your in game actions. You may confront an NPC that panics and runs, his panic may set others panicking. However, someone else may decide to investigate all this consternation – and come to confront you.
Using the hacking device Aiden looks to acquire early on in the game, you can gain insight into each individual personality and use the information to help predict reactions and alter your approach accordingly.
Understandably, many look for the size and scope of open world games to be impressed, for those this trailer should certainly set pulses racing. A fully realised Chicago is no simple feat. However, the attention to detail, combined with actually being able to use that level of subtlety to influence the outcome of events, is mind mindbogglingly impressive to me!
With so much on offer on a macro level and a micro level, Watch_Dogs is shaping up to be a game the likes of which we have never seen.
Currently, an Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3 and PC release date is set for May 27th, 2014. Still no word on a confirmed release date for the Wii U, but similarly, no confirmation of its cancellation either!
For us, the 27th of May can’t get here soon enough. Be sure to check back on TwinstickGaming soon for all your Watch_Dogs news.
