Warner Brothers’ latest trailer for Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has confirmed that the game will be released on the 7th of October 2014. Shadow of Mordor seemingly came out of nowhere and was only recently unveiled earlier this year, with that in mind it is surprising that the release date falls this side of Christmas. I’m sure no hardened Lord of the Rings fan will be complaining at that though.
Previous trailers only gave insights to a small number of gameplay aspects or the intriguing and exciting nemesis system. A system, which is said to generate tailored enemies for you to battle as you work your way through the Orc hierarchy. The enemies you face depend on the actions you take. For example, defeating a lowly foot soldier and possessing their mind can grant you access to one of the captains, giving you the option to assassinate or spy on them.
However, this new trailer gives us more of a feel for what the game will be about both story wise and thematically. Originally pitched as a revenge story this new trailer gives you a sense that Talion, the main protagonist, is searching for not only revenge but peace – to be with his family once more in the afterlife.
Anyone who pre-orders Shadow of Mordor will have access to the Dark Ranger bonus pack, which comes with a Dark Ranger character skin and a ‘Test of Power‘ challenge mode. The challenge mode enlists players to kill Sauron’s Captains to
acquire powerful runes, which bolster your character’s abilities.
Expect this Lord of the Rings game to be far more adult than previous outings. A provisional age rating of PEGI 18 and the box art, which is littered with dead orcs, are enough to give a clear indication that this game may be a tad graphic.
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
