**UPDATE 09/04/2014 18:00 Sony HAVE finally given in and made the announcement official through the Playstation Blog. Full details are available here.
Original story follows below.**
In the latest in a catalogue of blunders, it is the Sony Playstation Store that has made the most official, unofficial announcement that, yes, critically acclaimed, universally lauded masterpiece, The Last of Us IS coming to PS4.
After a Sony Turkey VP accidentally let it slip that it would be available – disc and digital – by summer, rumors started to fly all over the internet. Many saw this as all the confirmation they needed to get excited, others were a bit more reserved and took a more : ‘Sony Turkey doesn’t count, it’s still just a rumor’ attitude. Which was puzzling, but I guess people didn’t want to have their hopes dashed?
Putting the casual xenophobic tendencies of the internet aside for a second, the rumor of a PS4 release gained further momentum when a Spanish retailer started advertising pre-orders. Still people were reluctant to believe.
However, after a banner was seen (and captured) on the Playstation Store, showing a pre-order price of $59.99 for what appears to be a ‘Remastered Edition’ on PS4, people have to start accepting – this is real. From what we’ve heard, the PS4 version will include the full game and the Left Behind DLC in one package. No confirmation yet on whether all multiplayer DLC will also be included.
What Sony and developer, Naughty Dog do from here is anyone’s guess. This doesn’t bare the hallmarks of the usual deliberate ‘leak to the press’ marketing strategies employed by some companies. This smacks of repeated human error. It is likely Naughty Dog and Sony were hoping to save the announcement for E3 in June, but with the impact of the announcement already gone – perhaps they would wiser to officially announce now and use the E3 event to build on the hype and hysteria already generated, rather than try to inject it into an announcement that will surprise nobody?
Are you looking forward to The Last of Us Ps4? We can’t wait!
