The first trailer to show in-game footage of Arkham Knight has just been released by Warner Brothers and Rocksteady.
It opens with the same voice-over as heard in the announcement trailer, stating that the citizens of Gotham should abandon their city or face their worst fears being released upon them.
The voice this time around is less garbled than before, and is played to footage of what appears to be The Scarecrow in some kind of laboratory.
Rocksteady and Warner Bros. have already explained that The Scarecrow will return and play a large part in the story, alongside Batman’s usual rogues gallery members.
The new trailer also shows footage of Two-Face and The Penguin standing side by side, and we get a glimpse of how they look in this new chapter, but, more importantly, the trailer ends with a tantalizing glimpse of the new villain – The Arkham Knight.
He can be seen taking Batman down to the ground before pointing a gun at him, seemingly ready to execute the hero.
Speculation still circulates as to who the Arkham Knight is, but it would seem that he is a force to be reckoned with.
The trailer also shows Batman donning a new armoured suit. This has a lot of similarities with the armoured suit shown in the Wii U ‘Armoured Edition’ of Batman Arkham City, and with the armoured suit which can be unlocked during the Challenge mode of Arkham Asylum.
This suit looks as though it is built for one purpose, and that purpose is war. The trailer shows the streets of Gotham ablaze and cars being turned over, with gangs and thugs running rampant.
Perhaps the most notable footage is that of the Batmobile, which most people will have been most eager to see. We get to see Batman both boarding and ejecting from the Batmobile, and also see the huge vehicle smashing through obstacles in its path, as well as firing missiles at enemy vehicles whilst in pursuit.
The trailer gives us a great preview of what Arkham Knight will offer and just how beautiful this final instalment in the Arkham trilogy will look on the next-gen consoles.
Arkham Knight is expected to launch in the final quarter of this year.
