Yesterday, Sony promoted their upcoming PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886 on Twitch. The short video was a brief snippet that effectively showed off the seamless transitions of third person cover shooter action with beautiful in game cinematics. Although the footage sadly isn’t archived, we have searched the internet for the best footage and courtesy of GameHQMedia we have it.
The Order: 1886 – Twitch Gameplay Footage
Polygon also have extended footage if you want to check it out here.
With E3 around the corner Sony chose a novel way to promote their product. With talk of Twitch being bought out by Google, Twitch has certainly become the flavour of the month. With all eyes turning towards the streaming service, Sony, rather successfully, gave us a glimpse of what to expect from their PS4 exclusive.
Whilst this looks a lot like typical third person cover mechanics, the way the Order slips between gameplay and cinematics almost seamlessly is a testament to the developer, Ready at Dawn. These subtle transitions have clearly been taken from another Sony title, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted, who were one of the first to blur the lines of actual gameplay with cinematics that players are in control of. This approach is ever becoming more and more appealing to audiences, as many are comparing their gaming experiences with that of a film.
The live stream may have been only a few minutes but we have been given a taste of the unique weaponry and enemy AI. The use (of what we believe to be) Holy Water, is able to to heal the Knights from serious injuries. Aspects such as this show there is perhaps more to this game than just finding cover and shooting people with arc-lightning-guns.
But for now we’ll try not to get too carried away and wait for further developments at this years E3.
