Nintendo’s own Eiji Aonuma has broken the silence on the next installment of the hallowed Legend of Zelda franchise.
Legend of Zelda on the Wii U will feature a vast and totally open world. A world that players will be free to explore from the outset. Showing off some gorgeous cell-shaded graphics, much like those popularised in Wind Waker, but with an altogether more mature look – like that of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess, Zelda Wii U will offer new challenges where your approach to a puzzle can make all the difference. Literally.
Aonuma speaks of how your geographical approach to an area, can influence how you will go about solving the problem or gaining access to the next challenge.
Once the game demonstration gets into full motion, you can see the true depth, vibrancy and fluidity of the graphics. Though Nintendo have been criticised in the past for bringing last generation hardware to a next generation fight, there are few games we’ve seen on any console past, present or future, that look this good.
An open world Zelda is exactly the kind of thing Nintendo need to convince people to adopt this platform. It may not be a new IP, but it’s a new approach that opens up and radically alters one of their most popular franchises to date. It’s brave, it’s awesome, it’s another reason you should seriously consider purchasing the Wii U.
