Something that really caught my eye in the Microsoft Presser at e3 this week was the trailer for an upcoming Xbox game entitled Ori and The Blind Forest. At the time, frantically scribbling my notes, I put “Disney meets Twin Peaks”, which let’s be honest, is a rather bizarre, if intriguing combination, so after I’d finished with the pressers, I went back to look at it again.
Anyway, it turns out that I’m now not entirely sure where the Twin Peaks bit came from (I blame the pressure, and the caffeine), but it does look spectacular – like if Disney did decide to get a bit sinister and whatnot.
From the trailer, you can see that it’s undoubtedly a beautiful looking 2D platformer, with more than its fair share of atmosphere. Also, there’s a giant owl. Developed by Moon Studios, and focusing on the friendship between a ghostly little rodent-y thing and a slightly husky demon, and described as being an “action-adventure platformer, that combines deep exploratory gameplay with emotional storytelling”, this little gem may just become an instant cult classic when it hits the Xbox.
Not much is known about when exactly that might be – but hopefully it’ll be as soon as this autumn/fall.
As ever, keep it here at TwinStick for additional news and information.
