For some time now Nintendo have been sharing microscopic amounts of information in regards to their collectable and interactive toy based figurines. The industry has been in the dark as to what Nintendo had planned for these figurines, that is, until this week.
Details are still sketchy but at E3 this week, Nintendo officially introduced us to amiibo, the title given to the figurine series, which will work in conjunction with various games released later this year.
The highly detailed figurines (which will have fans and collectors like myself crying with excitement) show famous characters such as Mario, Link, Zelda, Donkey Kong and many more, all immortalised in heroic and famous poses.
Nintendo have stated that these figures will be cross compatible with titles such as Super Smash Bros. Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Yoshi’s Wooly World and Mario Party 10.
It would seem that as you use the characters in one title, the character will grow stronger and increase in strength. This will in turn carry on over to other titles, unlocking new abilities for that particular game.
Certainly a clever twist on the Skylanders and Disney Infinity games.
Nintendo have also announced that these figurines will support Nintendo 3DS users by means of a portable reader for the figurines to stand on, similar to the Portal of Power that Skylanders uses on the 3DS.
10 figurines will be available upon launch, which is slated as the holiday season of this year and apparently more will follow throughout 2015.
