Summer is here and for most people that means heading off on their holidays, lying in the sunshine, having time off from work or school to just enjoy taking it easy. For gamers, it usually means a bit of a lull in the release schedule. Sony, however, have other plans for us! Not only are they bringing The Last of Us: Remastered to PS4 on August 1st (EU), but they’ve also got a delicious new set of games for us to enjoy courtesy of the Playstation Plus Instant Game Collection! Goodbye summer, hello rickets (Editor notes: TwinStick Gaming recommends getting out in the sun as often as possible and vitamin D supplements -such as cod liver oil- if you’re at all worried!)
We should mention this is nothing remotely like the rumored lineup that came from a Russian Site – we now have confirmation of all titles!
PS4 – Road Not Taken (confirmed)
First up this month comes a beautifully crafted new title from the extremely talented team at Spry Fox. Road Not Taken is a rogue-like puzzle adventure about surviving life’s surprises. You play as a ranger adventuring through a vast, unforgiving forest in the aftermath of a brutal winter storm, rescuing children who have lost their way. (From Playstastion blog)
PS4 – Fez (Cross Buy – confirmed)
Next up, Polytron‘s highly acclaimed FEZ – a 2D platform puzzle game set in a 3D world where you play as Gomez. When the existence of a mysterious third dimension is revealed to him, Gomez is sent out on a journey that will take him to the very end of time and space. Unearth the mysteries of the past and discover the truth about reality and perception. Read our full review here.
PS3 – Crysis 3 (confirmed)
First up on PS3 this month we welcome future-tech FPS sequel Crysis 3. Return to the fight as Prophet, the Nanosuit soldier on a quest to rid the world of the invading Ceph and eliminate the corrupted CELL Corporation. (From Playstation Blog)
Not the FPS we’d thought was coming, but arguably a better one in its stead (definitely a bigger one).
PS3 – Proteus (Cross Buy – confirmed)
Also on PS3 in August, eccentric, experimental exploration adventure Proteus from Curve Studios, in which you find yourself on a mysterious island. Possibly how those crazy ‘The Swapper’ rumors got started – the involvement of Curve Studios WAS true, the idea that the game they were bringing was ‘The Swapper’ – totally bogus!
And for those of you who plan to partake in BOTH international travel AND videogames, we have the PS Vita titles that you can add to your collection before you set off:
PS VITA – Metrico (confirmed)
Metrico is based around the beauty of infographics in a world built around bar, line and pie charts where the environment changes instantly with your input. You’ll have to analyse and experiment with your surroundings, while your reflexes, intuition and smarts are all being put to the test! It looks bonkers, but is weirdly addictive!
PS VITA – LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 (confirmed)
Your final offering for this month follows on from last month’s excellent Lego offering. LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7. Based on the last three Harry Potter books, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 takes players through Harry Potter’s heroic adventures in the Muggle and wizarding worlds. From Privet Drive in Little Whinging to Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and Hogwarts – plus new locations including Grimmauld Place, the Ministry of Magic, and Godric’s Hollow – you will encounter new faces, new challenges and new magic, preparing you for the ultimate face-off against Lord Voldemort!
**US Playstation Plus Subscribers will not receive Lego Harry Potter on Vita. Instead, they will get the excellent hack and slash, multiplayer action RPG, Dragon’s Crown.**
