Earlier this month Shuhei Yoshida was optimistic at the possibility that the Uncharted trilogy could get the ‘remastered’ treatment for the PS4. With the recent success of The Last of Us: Remastered on PS4, it is clear people are still hungry to play older games, no matter what generation of console they originate from.
Arne Meyer spoke to Digital Spy about the possibility of Uncharted coming to the PS4 and Yoshida’s support of the series.
It would be a good time for us to leverage all the attention behind it and make it look better. It would be really cool to have.
Shuhei really likes the Uncharted series quite a bit, and I think it would be a great way to introduce – I wouldn’t say a new generation – but to expand the people that are bound to know Uncharted.
Sony are acutely aware that a portion of their PS4 sales are from people who were die hard Xbox fans. This subsequently meant that many of them hadn’t actually played The Last of Us, hence the reasoning behind the remastered re-release. Uncharted 4: a Thief’s End is expected sometime in 2015, possibly Q4. What better way to convince people to buy Uncharted 4, than allowing people to play the previous games themselves?
With Tomb Raider becoming a timed Xbox One exclusive Sony will not want to risk people jumping ship for their treasure hunting fix. If an Uncharted Trilogy Remaster hit shelves summer 2015, much like The Last of Us did, then Naughty Dog and Sony have a fool proof strategy firmly in place.
