Bioware and EA have unveiled that Dragon Age Inquisition will come with a 4 player co-op multiplayer mode. According to Bioware the multiplayer will be separate to the single player campaign and player items and experience points will not transfer. The multiplayer mode will also have no bearing on the single player campaign.
Instead, the 4 player co-op is being described “an action-packed dungeon-crawling four-player co-op experience” that can be played with up to 4 friends. Bioware went on to explain;
“Following the success of Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode, Dragon Age multiplayer includes fast-paced matches requiring strategic team gameplay while adding Inquisition’s tactical class combat and extensive loot and crafting systems.”
Our goal with Dragon Age multiplayer is not to affect your single-player campaign…..We simply want to give our fans the chance to play with their friends for the first time in the Dragon Age universe.”
“We wanted to make sure that the two economies are separate, which will allow a stronger progression in both SP and MP…If you play Dragon Age multiplayer, you will learn how each class plays a different role in combat, how different skills work, and how your party composition can give you a tactical advantage on the battlefield. This knowledge is transferable to SP, but items are not.”
In total there will be 12 available characters to choose from, with more on the way. Each of these characters will fit into one of the specific classes such rogue, mage or warrior. Bioware also clarified that there will be no multiplayer achievements/trophies.
Initially there was controversy when Bioware announced that Dragon Age Inquisition would have in game purchases. Whilst Bioware admit that gamers can purchase weapons, armour and items with real world money, they also state that all items can be earned with in-game money, which is earned by playing the multiplayer at no expense to the player, “There will be no pay walls in Dragon Age multiplayer. Everything is accessible with gold coins. You can use premium currency, but you don’t have to.”
Finally, Bioware also confirmed a companion app entitled Inquisition HQ. Details are still sketchy on the mobile and PC app, but players can swap their loadouts whilst on the move.
Dragon Age: Inquisition comes to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on Nov 18th in North America and Nov 21st in Europe.
