Monolith Productions made it clear that there would be a multitude of characters to engage, manipulate, intimidate and execute in Warner Bros‘ upcoming Lord of the Rings inspired title Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor. The latest trailer showcases Ratbag, a snivelling worm who would soon as stab you in the back as look at you.
What’s interesting about Ratbag is how much he is at a juxtaposition to the overall tone of the game, or so it seems. Previous trailers and insights suggested that the game was solely a dark game filled with visceral combat. After all this is the story of Talion, who attempts to bring down the Dark Lord himself in his quest for revenge for the death of his family.
However, Ratbag is a comical character, something often associated with the books and movies, and it seems Monolith are keen to include that light-hearted humour and add further depth to Talion himself.
Ratbag is an Orc you encounter, by chance, and you must decide whether to spare his life. If things go according to plan Ratbag can act as a willing spy and assassin on your behalf, amongst the ranks of Orc. Shadow of Mordor’s complex nemesis system encourages Talion (you) to supplant the ranks of Sauron’s armies by killing chief orc captains and replacing them with your own. However, Ratbag is willing to do this in exchange for his life, no coercion, no intimidation, just one orc seeing the advantages to having a powerful ally who can put Ratbag high up on the food chain.
Twinstick Gaming are incredibly excited for Shadow of Mordor, which hits shelves on the 30th of September (North America) and the rest of the world on October 2nd for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
