Today sees Titanfall’s ‘biggest ever update,’ that is according to Respawn. The update includes a new co-op mode intriguingly named ‘Frontier Defence.’ Make no mistake this new mode isn’t exactly original, in fact it is just another horde mode, but let’s face it horde modes are incredibly popular so why not eh?
Frontier Defence sees up-to four players defend an object whilst holding off waves and waves of old and new enemies. The Titanfall blog states that you will be pit against “Grunts and Spectres, stealthy Sniper Spectres and Cloak Drones, explosive Suicide Spectres and Nuclear Titans, ranged Mortar Titans, and even melee-resistant Arc Titans.”
To counter the vast amount of enemies players will be able to deploy turrets, customise their weaponry with loadout crates dotted around the map and any player who falls in combat will be able to re-deploy via a dropship which “Experienced Pilots always maximize their impact on the struggle below by firing from the side window of the dropship on approach.”
The update also features ranked play but this will be launching in beta form throughout October. Ranked play will engage players in an increasingly difficult set of tier challenges, where they have to outperform other pilots. This new format will work across all standard competitive matches. The beta itself is exclusive to Gen 10 players who receive an invite – for further details click here.
In addition Sudden Death Capture The Flag will be added to the roster of game modes, where if the scores are tied, after the time limit, respawning will be disabled. There is also a new 3 star map mode, which rewards players for reaching a particular score on each map, in each game mode.
Respawn have also added Private Match Burn Card Sets, New Titan Insignias and a full screen mini-map, as well as a ton of other game modes. To check them all out click here.
