PS4 Price Drop At TESCO
Sony Tweeted that the PS4 will receive a price drop, retailing at £279 at Tesco, and will be bundled with a copy of Witcher, on Tuesday May 18th.
So far the price drop only appears to be available at Tesco and when you click on the link, the bundle will be advertised at £299.99. However, using the code from Sony’s Twitter advertisement should knock off a further £20.
Sony and Microsoft have been going toe to toe recently with their price drops as it was only several weeks ago that the PS4 dropped to £299.99 for a limited time only to coincide with, and potentially usurp, Microsoft’s permanent price drop of the Xbox One to £299.99.
Since the Playstation 4’s launch we have only ever seen limited time price drops and there is no word that this price drop is permanent. However, judging by the confident words of Sony UK boss Fergal Gara we can assume this is perhaps temporary;
“Our RRP on day one is our RRP today. Yes, there are promotions that offer consumers better value from time-to-time, but it’s great that we managed to start at such a great price and it has held well.”
“….We are proud that we managed to launch at a very competitive price, and demand has held up very strongly for PS4.”
Whilst this is a great price for consumers both Sony and Microsoft know the pitfalls of constant price cuts, Gara added “Any price war in any sector in any market can be dangerous,” he said. “If there is a race to zero, who wins from that?”
So I guess we should enjoy the moment and take advantage of both a great console and a great upcoming game.
